Give Back Alexandria

Give Back Alexandria logoWhat happens when you have more passion than capital to help Alexandria? That’s the challenge facing today’s young professionals, many of whom have joined together in ACT’s Give Back Alexandria. Members Scott and Sonia Price believe the group is true to its name. Says Scott, “It’s a great vehicle for giving back. You may not be able to give large sums of money, but collectively and combined with ACT matching funds, we see a big impact.” And the group’s fundraising is always … fun. Last year, its annual Blues and Bluegrass event attracted 200 young Alexandrians. For Scott, who makes a special effort to reach out to diverse segments of the community, the group is also “a great way to get so many different groups together with the common goal of helping the city.” And now, he says, given the current economic climate, “There couldn’t be a better time to get involved.”

ABLE Fall Education Event - November 17th

Ambassadors Abroad in the Community
Telling your organization’s story, sharing your passion and recruiting others to join your effort

ABLE’s fall education session – November 17, 2010 – will give you the tools to be a brilliant board ambassador. You will learn how to:
  • Take advantage of every opportunity to tell your organization’s story;
  • Effectively and succinctly communicate your message; and
  • Rally others around your cause.
And most importantly, you will also have the opportunity to craft and deliver your “elevator pitch” to fellow ABLE board colleagues.

Barbara Ciconte, Senior Vice President for Consulting Services at Donor Strategies, Inc. will kick off this session with an overview of the qualities of effective board ambassadors. She will be followed by Keith Burner, First Vice President, Wealth Management, at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, who will discuss the practical applications from his vantage point as Vice President (and former President) of the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors and member of several other boards of Alexandria-based nonprofits.

We will wrap things up with a practical exercise to get you started on delivering your “pitch.”
