Fuller Sees the Economy Improving
While certainly not painting an overly optimistic picture, Dr. Stephen Fuller provided an uplifting message about the local economy to those in attendance on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at the Virginia Theological Seminary for an event sponsored by ACT for Alexandria, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership. Dr. Fuller, a professor at George Mason University, is an acknowledged expert on the economy particularly in relation to its impact on northern Virginia and the larger metropolitan DC area. Indicating the economy is slowly improving, he believes Alexandria and its northern Virginia neighbors should feel the impact of this improvement more quickly than others in our region and nationally. While northern Virginia has most certainly experienced a major impact from the downturn, important economic indicators lean to the view that we are experiencing a slow but improving trend which, while we may still experience periodic corrections, should continue on a positive trajectory over the next few years. He cautioned that the recovery would not be felt as quickly as those in the past but believes that we will continue to experience positive growth.
This year’s program was sponsored by WealthEngine, a local industry leader in prospect research and wealth identification services for nonprofit groups, market investors and financial service markets.
