Nonprofit Excellence Forum Recap
Thank you for joining us for ACT’s 2009 Nonprofit Excellence Forum and taking the time to focus on building the capacity of your organization! We were so pleased to have Cokie Roberts as our keynote speaker. Her stories about the history of philanthropy in our country and the important role advocacy plays in fundraising were very inspiring.
Many of you have asked for follow up materials from our breakout sessions. As we receive more information from our panelists, we will update the information below.

Contingency Planning – Eduardo Romero from The Nonprofit Roundtable has put together a list of resources he discussed at the session. Click here to access this information.

The Future of Fundraising - Kate Hays from Small Act started the session with an eye-opening video about social media. Click here to view this video by Socialnomics on YouTube. Small Act videotaped the session and will be sending us the link shortly. Click here for a list of book recommendations on social media.

ACT Grants
ACT has officially launched our 2010 Capacity Building Grant Program. We will be offering funding for:
  • Strategy Implementation Grants support nonprofits seeking to implement capacity building or organization strengthening measures within their organizations. These tangible activities will be linked to identified needs within the organization including: strengthening executive and board leadership; strategic marketing and communications planning; fund development planning; promoting effective planning and assessment; mergers, succession planning, or other restructuring efforts; and improving financial management.
  • Organizational Assessment Grants are awards to provide an organizational assessment to nonprofit organizations displaying great potential. The assessment is conducted by a private consultant (selected by ACT) specializing in nonprofit capacity improvement and strategic planning. The purpose of these assessments is to assist organizations in gaining insight into their current operating conditions and to begin to address critical issues including: organizational development and culture, strategic planning initiatives, and staff and board development.
Click here for application information. Applications are due Friday, November 20th at noon to the ACT office.

*If your organization would like to apply for one of the grant opportunities, you MUST attend one of ACT’s Grant Application Sessions.
The first was held at the networking lunch at the Nonprofit Excellence Forum on October 21st and the final one will be Tuesday, October 27th at 9:00 a.m. at ACT’s office, 311 Cameron Street, Alexandria.
