Center for Alexandria's Children

Center for Alexandria's Children logoIn 2008, there were 1,096 reports of child abuse and/or neglect in Alexandria.  These statistics do not take into account the number of cases that are never reported. The Center for Alexandria’s Children protects children and strengthens families by coordinating the investigation, prosecution, treatment and prevention of child abuse in one safe, child-friendly facility. The CAC is a public-private partnership dedicated to one purpose: the elimination of child abuse in the City of Alexandria.

Center for Alexandria's Children

Center for Alexandria's Children logoThe Center for Alexandria's Children (CAC) is a very special result of ACT's focus on innovation and collaboration.  This child advocacy center provides a single, supportive environment for victims of child abuse, as well as resources for parents.  Here, children receive sensitive, integrated care and attention from human services, law enforcement, and other professionals, and parents can learn new parenting skills and receive the support they also need.

The CAC officially opened in April 2007.  They celebrated with a Grand Opening event in September 2007.  ACT was able to bring this multi-disciplinary, multi-agency center from idea to opening in less than two years.

ACT continues to support the Center for Alexandria’s Children through capacity building grants and a joint investment towards a city-wide playgroup initiative with The Giving Circle of Alexandria.
