In 2008, there were 1,096 reports of child abuse and/or neglect in Alexandria. These statistics do not take into account the number of cases that are never reported. The Center for Alexandria’s Children protects children and strengthens families by coordinating the investigation, prosecution, treatment and prevention of child abuse in one safe, child-friendly facility. The CAC is a public-private partnership dedicated to one purpose: the elimination of child abuse in the City of Alexandria.
ACT for Alexandria (ACT) is at it again — celebrating our community’s commitment to Alexandria’s children with lots of fun and a little goofy flair. The occasion is our Third Annual Generations of Giving Gala on Thursday, April 29, 2010, and we invite you to join us. Our theme this year is Innovation: Reinventing Community, so naturally our Gala will be held at the Headquarters of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The dress? Geek chic. The food and drink? Inventive. The music? Perfect for dancinggeek2geek.
Of course, above all, there’s a message to our madness: with ingenuity, dedication, and heart, Alexandrians can help ACT for Alexandria create new ways to better the lives of our community’s children. Our next generation is our most important creation, and the innovative, effective services and support systems you help ACT make possible are vital to our children’s future.
Our evening will culminate with the presentation of the Legacy of Giving Award to the Guiffre Family – a family with a multi-generational tradition of community service, giving, and investment.
The Gala will serve as the kick-off event for Spring for Alexandria, a three-day celebration of giving and service in our city. Last year, Spring for Alexandria brought together 2,000 Alexandria businesses, community members, city employees, and elected officials and raised vital funds for programs focused on our city’s underserved residents.
