The Giving Circle of Alexandria
The Giving Circle is a diverse group of women who are invested and engaged in their community. They believe that confronting the City’s high priority issues collectively and strategically is the best means to inspire social change. With an annual matching grant of $25,000, ACT has helped The Giving Circle increase their membership and impact around early childhood education. In 2009, ACT and The Giving Circle co-invested in a city-wide playgroup initiative to expand a collaborative playgroup model around the City.

ACT is hiring! Community Manager, ACTion Alexandria ACTion Alexandria, a technology-enabled initiative for citizen engagement, is looking for a dynamic individual to facilitate grassroots philanthropy and citizen-inspired problem solving in the City of Alexandria. ACTion Alexandria is an initiative of ACT for Alexandria, a community foundation for the city of Alexandria, Virginia. ACTion Alexandria is one of 24 innovative initiatives awarded a prestigious and nationally sought after Knight Foundation Grant. It is also supported by the City of Alexandria government, local nonprofits, and citizens, and presents a wonderful opportunity for the right candidate to make a direct and visible impact on the community by creating and leading our Web 2.0 based citizen engagement program. Philanthropy Intern ACT is pleased to announce that we have received a grant from the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program, administered by Volunteer Fairfax. We will be hiring a Philanthropy Intern for the summer. The intern will be a vital member of our team for the summer, assisting with various event planning, development, and community problem solving projects. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to the nonprofit field. The Philanthropy Intern will support the work of ACT, while learning about the local nonprofit community and gaining crucial skills in fundraising, marketing & communications, and program development. This is a great opportunity for an undergraduate student who would like to develop professional skills and learn about foundations, grant-making and the nonprofit sector. Potential projects include marketing and promotion of our online care giving and community building partnership with Lotsa Helping Hands, analysis of donor prospects and engagement opportunities, as well as research on best practices in grant-making and building the capacity of nonprofit organizations.
