Center for Alexandria's Children

Center for Alexandria's Children logoIn 2008, there were 1,096 reports of child abuse and/or neglect in Alexandria.  These statistics do not take into account the number of cases that are never reported. The Center for Alexandria’s Children protects children and strengthens families by coordinating the investigation, prosecution, treatment and prevention of child abuse in one safe, child-friendly facility. The CAC is a public-private partnership dedicated to one purpose: the elimination of child abuse in the City of Alexandria.

Nonprofit Excellence Forum

Every year, ACT for Alexandria hosts a FREE half day forum for nonprofit and Board leaders offering professional development and insights from national and regional leaders.

On Wednesday, October 21st, ACT will host our 5th Annual Nonprofit Excellence Forum, a gathering of nonprofit and board leaders to discuss innovations in philanthropy and strategies for building the capacity of nonprofit organizations. This event has been generously sponsored by Capital One for the past four years.

We are pleased to announce that this year, Emmy Award Winning Journalist and Best-Selling Author Cokie Roberts will be our keynote speaker. Previous Forum speakers include Ted Leonsis, Billy Shore, Mario Morino, and Dr. Elizabeth Boris.

ACT’s 5th annual forum will offer three concurrent breakout sessions:
Contingency Planning – What to do when things don’t go according to plan. This session will prepare leaders to adapt to changing circumstances and communicate changes to others, while staying faithful to their mission.
Future of Fundraising – Mobilizing people and resources for change. Leaders will learn how to add social media and new technologies to traditional fundraising so they can better cultivate and deepen relationships with new and existing donors.
Creating a Caring Community – A case study in engaging Alexandrians. ACT and Lotsa Helping Hands will explain their joint initiative, which leverages technology to communicate, coordinate, and meet community needs.

Following the Forum we will announce our 2010 Capacity Building Grant opportunities.

The Forum will be held from 8:30am-12:30pm at the First Baptist Church Meeting Center, 2932 King Street, Alexandria, VA.
