ACT for Alexandria

ACTion Alexandria Launches - Take an Action!

ACTion Alexandria has officially launched!

ACTion Alexandria, a new citizen engagement Website, provides interactive tools that make it easier for residents to take a more active role in addressing community problems.  ACTion Alexandria will connect individuals to nonprofit organizations they want to support, but with a strictly local focus. Individuals have the opportunity to take action on behalf of nonprofits working to improve the community.

The first action is to raise $500 to pay for one month of milk and after school snacks for children living at the Carpenter's Shelter's residential facility.

The Carpenter’s Shelter houses from 20-25 children and provides them with milk and after school snacks every day to make shelter children have the energy they need to focus on their homework as they work with tutors to ensure the children leave the shelter at or above their appropriate grade level. One month's worth of after school snacks costs approximately $500 each month.

After school snacks may not seem important, but children who aren't hungry learn better, behave better, and feel better.

And thanks to Brooke Curran and the Running Brooke Fund we have a great opportunity to maximize your donation. The Running Brooke fund is chipping in up to $500 in matching donations, effectively doubling the impact of your small donation!

New actions will be posted every week.
