ACT for Alexandria

Capacity Building Grant Cycle Opens in July

ACT has invested nearly $1 Million Dollars in capacity building grants to Alexandria nonprofits since 2005.  ACT’s grants support and encourage nonprofit excellence and strengthens leadership within nonprofits by investing in infrastructure based programs and organizational needs. The Performance Imperative framework has helped inform the funding priorities for our Capacity Building Grants.  We will be focusing on funding requests for:

  • Strategic Planning
  • Pillar 1 – Courageous, Adaptive Executive and Board Leadership (board coaching, development, governance, recruitment, training, succession planning, etc.)
  • Pillar 4 – Financial Health & Sustainability (fund development planning)

Starting July 30, 2018, nonprofits can begin the LOI Application by clicking here. To see a sample list of questions, click here.  All applications must be submitted online through Foundant, our grants management system.  For more information about ACT’s capacity building grants, visit:

In 2017, ACT invited fund holders to join the Grants Committee as Side-By-Side investors, resulting in an additional $42,200 in grants awarded. ACT will be inviting donors to participate in the process again this year to invest even more in the capacity of our local nonprofits.  For more information about the grants process, please contact Brandi Yee at
