In a pilot project this year, ACT invited fund holders to join the Grants Committee as Side-By-Side investors which resulted in an additional $27,200 to the grants awarded this June through the ACT Capacity Grants process, almost doubling the amount of grants that could be awarded. These donor advised fund holders stepped up to the call and joined the ACT grant review committee in reading through the grant requests submitted by the 11 organizations invited to submit full proposals. The interest and questions raised by these fund holders added to the robust discussion that ensued in deciding which organizations would receive grant funding. Among the Side-By-Side investors were a former social worker, a former executive director of an arts organization, and wide variety of experience on nonprofit boards. Overall it was a fabulous addition to the grants process and ACT plans to invite donor advised fund holders to join the fall grants cycle at year end.
