Year of the Veteran in Alexandria

Last November, Mayor William Euille and the Alexandria City Council proclaimed 2014 The Year of the Veteran in Alexandria. (Watch the Proclamation.Throughout 2014, events and activites are being organized to raise awareness for the specific challenges veterans face when returning to civilian life. As we prepare to celebrate Memorial Day, here are a few ways to remember and celebrate our troops in Alexandria: 

GI Film Festival: The GI Film Festival is a nonprofit dedicated to sharing the military experience, presenting films that honor the heroic stories of the American Armed Forces. The film festival will hosting events throughout Memorial Day weekend. Learn more. 

Alexandria Family Festival: Immediately following the Alexandria Running Festival on May 25, the Alexandria Family Festival will honor America's military families. Join the celebration. 

37th Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival: The City of Alexandria will host a Memorial Day Jazz Festival featuring performances by US Army Blues, Ocho de Bastos, Earl Carter, Blue Crescent Syncopators and Seth Kibel and Bay JAzz Project all held Waterfront Park, 1 Prince St. Find out more.
