NeighborShare ALX: Supporting Our Neighbors Impacted by the Shutdown

The federal shutdown put thousands of Alexandrians in a tough spot. With one in three households already unable to cover a $400 emergency, even a short pause in income can lead to crisis—missed rent, empty fridges, and childcare gaps.
Through our Community Support Initiative, ACT is sponsoring NeighborShare ALX, a platform that connects neighbors in need with neighbors who can help, right when help is needed most. NeighborShare ALX is a new way to meet urgent needs while building community connection and generosity. This online platform hosted by NeighborShare* provides fast, flexible, and direct financial support to individuals impacted by the shutdown. NeighborShare ALX enables just-in-time financial assistance so small but pivotal expenses like a car repair, medical bill, or utility payment—don’t spiral into larger crises such as food insecurity, job loss, or even homelessness.
NeighborShare ALX has teamed up with trusted local nonprofits that identify urgent household needs that would otherwise go unmet, and we’re inviting Alexandrians to fulfill those needs directly through this online platform. You can help federal employees, contractors, hourly workers, small business staff, and families relying on SNAP—all living right here in Alexandria.
This isn’t about politics; it’s about people. It’s about ensuring no one has to choose between paying for groceries or keeping the lights on because of circumstances beyond their control.
