Philanthropic Guidance and Support: How Open Horizon continues to ACT for Alexandria & where it all started
Open Horizon is pleased to contribute $25,000 to ACT for Alexandria each year for the next 3 years. We make this multiyear donation commitment due to the ways that ACT has supported us since the inception of our family foundation 6 years ago, and due to the ways that ACT makes Alexandria a better community. Our Co-Founders, Lisa Cohen and Hershel Kleinberg offer:
“ACT was there for us at the very beginning — not just as advisors, but as true partners who believed in our vision for what community could be. Our continued support is a reflection of our deep gratitude for their guidance and their tireless work to make Alexandria a place where all can thrive. Alexandria is fortunate to have a community foundation as skilled, thoughtful, and inclusive as ACT, a community foundation that is rooted in telling the stories of all Alexandrians, inviting their perspectives, and affirming that we are a stronger and better community when we are connected and engaged with one another. Open Horizon learns from ACT for Alexandria, and we are inspired and buoyed by our sister foundation’s brilliance.”
When our foundation was being dreamed up, the co-founders turned to ACT for guidance and ACT for Alexandria made connections with local community leaders, started relationships with local nonprofits, and offered their time and friendship as a sounding board for initial visions. Since then, Open Horizon has expanded to have 4 community partner nonprofit organizations that we closely support (Community Lodgings, Casa Chirilagua, Together We Bake, and Child & Family Network Centers) and has mobilized $460,718 dollars into the Alexandria community with their guidance and support to date.
“ACT has helped us—and so many others—dream bigger about what community giving can accomplish. We hope our continued support inspires other foundations to join us in sustaining this vital organization that strengthens the roots of Alexandria” D’Lynn Jacobs, Open Horizon Executive Director.
We uplift this partnership and contribution hoping that our peer foundations, and individual Alexandria based donors, will also consider supporting ACT and meeting this moment. They have given local nonprofits and philanthropic organizations loving, and data driven, guidance and continue to do so under the threat of shifts in philanthropic giving. Our attention and contributions are needed now more than ever and we are pleased to be able to show up in, with, and for our community.
