Mission, Vision, Beliefs & Values

For more than 20 years, ACT for Alexandria has been where the community’s generosity meets the community’s greatest needs. We are community conveners, capacity builders, and problem solvers. ACT works with our partners to incubate new collaborations and approaches that advance the economic well-being of Alexandrians, especially those who have been negatively impacted by systemic racism.

What guides us isn’t a slogan. It’s a clear sense of purpose, backed by values we hold ourselves to and a vision of the city we’re working toward together. Read on to learn what drives our work, what we stand for, and where we hope Alexandria is headed.

Mission

To amplify the work of our community by bringing people and resources together.

Vision

Alexandria is a just, vibrant, equitable place where all who live and work here thrive and feel like they belong.

Beliefs

As Alexandrians, we (ACT’s board and staff) find ourselves surrounded by:

  • A beautiful city with a rich, complex history and an extraordinary legacy from our forebears;
  • A diverse population of newcomers and long-term residents that provides great strength;
  • People who live and work in Alexandria who are generous and want to serve and share their time, talent, and money to help our community;
  • An effective city government that is committed to private/public partnership; and
  • Amazing nonprofits that work hard every day to improve the lives of Alexandrians.

As such, we feel both compelled and obligated to share and organize these assets to help everyone in our community thrive and feel a sense of belonging.
