At the Chamber’s 2021 Best in Business Award Reception on October 20, ACT for Alexandria (ACT) was honored to receive the award for Nonprofit/Association Business of the Year. That same evening, our good friend and steadfast supporter Scott Shaw was recognized as the Business Leader of the Year. Beyond his contributions as a local business owner and developer, Shaw has provided insights, ideas, and relationships that have directly contributed to the vibrancy of our community.
Shaw is a partner of Alexandria Restaurant Partners (ARP) which operates nine full-service restaurants including BARCA, Ada’s on the River, Vola’s Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide Lounge, The Majestic, Joe Theismann’s Restaurant, Mia’s Italian Kitchen, and Palette 22. Mr. Shaw is also a co-founder and partner of ALX Community, a co-working space and home to ACT’s offices. For several years, Shaw along with ARP and ALX Community have generously supported ACT’s mission and work, allowing ACT to expand our impact as Alexandria’s community foundation.
Mr. Shaw believes that a partnership with ACT makes a direct investment in the nonprofit sector of Alexandria. Shaw explains, “ACT provides scaffolding and foundational support to all Alexandria nonprofits. As Alexandria Restaurant Partners has grown and become immersed in the Alexandria community, it has become increasingly important for us to give back. We ultimately chose to partner with ACT knowing that they occupy a unique place in the ecosystem of Alexandria. Our support of ACT helps us maximize our impact in the nonprofit sector.”
Mr. Shaw exemplifies the spirit of entrepreneurship, community engagement, and philanthropy. We at ACT are thankful that the Chamber recognizes his many contributions to Alexandria, including how he champions the nonprofit sector and betters the lives of Alexandrians through his leadership and vision.
